This AIP All Purpose Seasoning is versatile enough to use on almost anything, including roasted veggies, chicken, pork or fish. And it’s perfect for the AIP elimination diet, as it’s free of nightshades, seed and berry spices and sugar.
Sometimes all you want is a quick and easy meal that’s still tasty and nourishing. Sometimes following a recipe is too much work. Wouldn’t it be great if you could just choose a meat and a vegetable (or two), pick ONE spice blend, throw it all together on a sheet pan (or a grill, or a sauté pan) and have dinner?
But if you’re following the AIP or Paleo diet, there aren’t many spice blends on store shelves for you to choose from. The vast majority of them contain one or more unsavory ingredients: gluten, soy, nightshades, seed spices, berry spices and/or sugar.
Even if you aren’t following AIP, there are many benefits to making your own homemade spice mixes. First, you can save tons of money making your own spice blends! You also get to pick your own favorite spices and leave out the ones you don’t really like! Plus, you get to avoid nasty additives and preservatives that are so often found in store-bought spice blends.
So, in an effort to make home-cooking more simple and convenient, I’ve been developing some of my own Paleo and AIP-friendly seasoning blends. A couple weeks ago, I shared a 2-Minute Breakfast Seasoning that will take your breakfasts to the next level.
This week, I’m sharing an AIP All Purpose Seasoning that you can use almost anywhere. It’s so versatile! You can use it on chicken, beef, pork or fish. Or sprinkle it on some vegetables before roasting or grilling them. If you tolerate rice or quinoa, mix a dash of this seasoning blend with them to give them a flavor boost.
This AIP All Purpose Seasoning can go with just about any dish. Hence the words “all purpose” in the title.
Just maybe don’t try to use it on ice cream or something. ? It’s more of a savory flavor.
How do you make AIP All Purpose Seasoning?
It’s so simple and inexpensive to make this AIP All Purpose Seasoning, you’ll never have to buy an expensive store-bought seasoning blend again! And you probably have all the ingredients you need already.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 2 tsp sea salt
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1 tsp basil
- 1/2 tsp sage
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
Just measure out all the spices and herbs, add to a spice jar and shake, shake, shake!
Use this AIP all purpose seasoning blend anywhere and everywhere. It goes great with almost any meat or vegetable, as well as grains, if you eat grains. I use about 1 tsp per pound of meat or vegetables, but feel free to adjust the amount you use to your taste.
I usually double or triple the recipe, so I have tons on-hand to add to quick and easy meals. Just store it in an airtight container in your pantry for up to a few months and use it whenever you need it (every day!).
